Talmud Torah: Tzedakah Project

Tzedakah Project

Emely Pol Policart

Bringing bags of food and toys to the community
of Olá in Coclé.

After arriving and unloading the bags of food we called the community members to deliver them, talked with them, handed out soccer balls and played with them. Afterwards we hiked to a waterfall.

In the community there was a small house with a tin roof and cracked walls; there we met Sergio, a paraplegic boy who built a wheelchair with materials he collected. He always wanted to have a telephone so, as a surprise, we gave him a cell phone.

The moment I enjoyed the most was when we started handing out the bags and playing soccer with the children. I also enjoyed when we gave the phone to Sergio and when he showed us the wheelchair he had created with pieces he collected.

I was very happy to be able to help them and show them a good time. It was easy for me to connect with them, deal with the children and hand out the candy baskets to the little ones.

Behind Sergio’s house there is a path that leads to the Olá Waterfalls. They accompanied us on a walk in the middle of the jungle, we crossed a river and came to a waterfall with a beautiful natural pool. We all jumped in and enjoyed the moment.

When we left I felt happy to be able to help them and show them a good time, and also grateful for their welcome and the attentions they gave us..
