Next Thursday, September 2, young Abril Kenny, daughter of Bernardo and Linda, will be called to the Torah for the first time, thus assuming her status as an adult in the Jewish people.
We share some of Abril’s reflections on her parashah and this very special ceremony for her:
My parashah is called Nitzavimand it begins with “You are standing today”. The people of Israel were gathered in one place, they were all there, the heads of the tribes, the judges, the guards, the woodcutters, men, women and children, all were gathered to make a covenant with God, the covenant that would seal the destiny of the Jewish people.
This parashah is very special, as it prepares us for Rosh Hashanah. Almost at the end, God puts before us life and death, and tells us to choose life to live it together with Him. For me, being a Bat Mitzvah is very special. On this path I came to realize the importance of being Jewish and being able to fulfill the mitzvot .
Mazal Tov to Abril and all her family.
