Last Tuesday, June 15, 2021, KSI members gathered virtually to participate in the second class of the mini-course taught by Rabbi Gustavo, Introduction to the Torah, a contemporary look.
In the first part of the class, Rabbi Gustavo was in charge of exemplifying how the tradition harmonizes those texts where there are discrepancies, specifically in the case of the fourth commandment, of the Shabbat, where there are significant differences between the two versions of the 10 Commandments that appear in the Torah, one in the book of Exodus, chapter 20 and the other in Deuteronomy, chapter 5. The tradition harmonizes both versions by maintaining that God has the ability to say one thing and people hear two different things. This is reflected in both the Lekha Dodi and the Friday night Kiddush.
After this point, the participants did a separate exercise in small groups, comparing the two accounts of creation: the one in the book of Genesis, chapter 1:1 to 2:3, and the second one that begins in chapter 2, verse 4.
We look forward to seeing you at the third class of this mini-course, which will be held next Thursday, June 24, 2021.
