PJ Library

PJ Library in English

PJ Library is an award-winning school and family engagement program created by the Harold Grinspoon Foundationin the USA, which aims to enrich the identity of Jewish children and families, as well as their connection to the community, through reading.

PJ Library began in Springfield, Massachusetts, in 2005. Today, PJ Library works in hundreds of communities in the USA, Canada, Australia, Israel, United Kingdom, Russia, Guatemala, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Uruguay and Mexico, in several languages. The program PJ Library arrived in Panama and Congregation Kol Shearith Israel in March 2017.

The program is carried out in partnership with and with funding from the Harold Grinspoon Foundation and the KSI Educational Fund. During the year PJ Library in Panama sends eight books as gifts to each child in our community between the ages of 3 and 6 and their families.

The books, all in Spanish, are delivered to the synagogue accompanied by activities related to the thematic content of the book, the implicit values and traditions, with experiences that also highlight the importance and joy of reading books as a family.

The books then go home to be read as a family and become part of the family library. Each book contains a parent’s guide with suggestions for activities and conversations they can enjoy with their children.
