And God spoke to Moses, saying, “This shall be the law of the Metzora (one afflicted with tzaraat) on the day of his purification; he shall be brought to the Kohen (priest).” (Leviticus 14:1). To a Kohen, not a healer, which seems to indicate that this a spiritual affliction in nature not a physical one. The Rabbis are very clear that the affliction of tzaraat is a punishment for having spoken lashon hara.

What I have learned from my parasha is that I need to try to be a good person, in my actions, interactions with people and the words that come out of my mouth. I believe that every instance of lashon hara takes a spiritual and even physical toll on a person. I believe that the world will be a better place when we pay as much attention to what comes out of our mouths as we do about what we put into it.
